Rooted in Bozeman
Story Distributing’s history reaches almost as far back as Bozeman’s history. The Story Motor Supply was founded in 1905 by Nelson Story, Jr., whose father, Nelson Story, was one of the city’s original founders. The motor supply is the oldest operating petroleum distributor in the State of Montana and was purchased in April of 1976 by Story Distributing. Story Distributing now operates 11 convenience stores and sells to 28 dealers. In addition, we supply petroleum products to over 1800 farm, commercial, home heating oil, and industrial accounts. We operate four commercial cardlocks and one remote bulk plant.

Everything done on a handshake. Although decades have passed, we have not forgotten our Bozeman roots and remain dedicated to serving the community our company’s foundation was built on. We are contributors to the Three Forks Fishing Derby, the Bozeman Stampede, HRDC and many local high schools. We donate to over 50 separate activities within the communities that we serve and our personnel have served as presidents and committee chairman for organizations such as Rotary, Ducks Unlimited, the MSU Foundation, Bobcat Boosters and Junior Achievement. Our founder and past President, Doug Alexander, served as President of the Montana Petroleum Marketers Association, Western Petroleum Marketers and as Western Region Vice President for Petroleum Marketers Association of America, our national association. In addition, we have served on various advisory boards and business improvement forums for our suppliers.
