Location: Bozeman or Gardiner, Montana

Reports To: Senior Director of Operations

Status: Full-Time / Regular / Exempt

Summary Description:
Yellowstone Forever is the official nonprofit partner of Yellowstone National Park. We partner with Yellowstone National Park to create opportunities for all people to experience, enhance, and preserve Yellowstone forever. Our combined operations include 11 educational Park Stores with gross sales of over $5.1 million; the Yellowstone Forever Institute, which offers more than 600 in-depth programs each year; a supporter program of over 50,000 Yellowstone enthusiasts raising funds to support critical park priority projects; and an online community of over 300,000 worldwide. Yellowstone Forever has provided over $100 million of cash support and over $55 million of in-kind support since 1933. Our mission of engagement and support through education and fundraising for the park will ensure Yellowstone remains for generations to come.

The Director of Technology is a strategic technology leader responsible for enhancing investments in transformational technologies in support of Yellowstone Forever’s strategic objectives.  The Director of Technology, in collaboration with YF departmental leaders, is responsible for defining and executing YF’s technology strategy, as well as managing all IT resources, organizational IT systems/processes, infrastructure, information security, end-users, and data center.  Success in this position requires both a high level of technical experience and expertise, and proven ability to communicate, translate, and lead technology projects across a broad range of organizational projects and objectives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Define and execute a technology roadmap, ensuring the delivery of planned solutions in a simplified and supportable manner
  • Build strong architecture, planning, portfolio, project, solution delivery and operational management practices and processes
  • Manage departmental budgets to ensure maximum returns on technology resources and the balanced utilization of in-house and sourced IT services
  • Coordinate with YF departmental leaders to confirm and prioritize the portfolio of IT work and services ensuring that IT is poised to deliver on its most critical initiatives and operations
  • Recruit, develop, and motivate staff with the right technical, functional, and personal abilities to achieve the information technology goals and initiatives
  • Collaborate with YF departmental leaders to select and manage vendors in support of YF technology requirements
  • Design and implement cross-departmental process improvements and best practices in support of all YF technology related functions
  • Manage the integration of new technology into the organizational infrastructure
  • Maintain proper security levels to protect the organizational network from internal and external events that may compromise or threaten organizational information and operations
  • Effectively communicate across all departments relevant technology-related information in the support of organizational objectives
  • Foster a collaborative, team-oriented environment with YF employees, volunteers and partners
  • Represent Yellowstone Forever and its mission accurately and positively
  • Travel into Yellowstone and into the Greater Yellowstone area as required
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Senior Director of Operations 

Basic Qualifications:

  • College degree in Information Technology or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of ten years IT management experience
  • Proven ability to lead and coordinate cross-functional efforts and deliver successful outcomes
  • A proven track record of defining, communicating, and executing technology and organizational strategies
  • Strong understanding of IT service delivery, IT operations, and IT service management
  • Experience managing budgets, staffing plans, and a portfolio of partners, vendors, and service providers
  • Ability to establish strong relationship across diverse functional areas
  • Experience presenting to executive leaders and board members
  • Ability to represent YF in a professional and courteous manner
  • This position involves driving YF vehicles, therefore applicants must hold and maintain a valid US driver’s license, and maintain a favorable driving record for insurance purposes
  • A satisfactory criminal background check are conditions of employment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading technology transformation efforts, such as migrating from traditional data center to the cloud, legacy applications to platforms, etc
  • Experience with technology operations in retail, philanthropy, outdoor education, marketing, and/or non-profit sector
  • Experience and/or knowledge of with applications including Microsoft Systems Center, SQL Server, Office 365; Data Center technologies including Hyper-V and Dell infrastructure
  • Knowledge of Retail warehouse inventory management (Microix), POS systems (EBizmart), Donor database management and program registration applications (Salesforce), E-Commerce (Abila), Abila MIP, CMS (Wordpress)
  • Knowledge of Website design and management, AWS S3, Azure Hybrid Cloud, SonicWALL Firewall, Windows desktops, Skype-based phone system, and unified communications with Exchange
  • Experience working in a non-profit environment
  • Knowledge of Yellowstone National Park

This is a full-time, year-round position based in Bozeman or Gardiner, Montana. Travel between offices and throughout the park is required. This is an exempt position and salary is based on experience.
