Company Background
Story Distributing Company was formed in April of 1976 when it purchased the assets of Story Motor Supply, the oldest operating petroleum distributor in the State of Montana. Story Distributing now operates 10 convenience stores and sells to 28 dealers. In addition, we supply petroleum products to over 1800 farm, commercial, home heating oil, and industrial accounts. We operate four commercial cardlocks and one remote bulk plant.

Job Description
Story Distributing is seeking a full time Accountant who is ready to contribute to a fast paced and continuously evolving company. This position will be responsible for implementing and maintaining an accurate and reliable accounts payable process, as well as work with the controller to produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

Responsibilities

  • Process and maintain Accounts Payable transactions
    • Sort, classify, and enter all vendor invoices
    • Review outstanding payables and print checks
    • Investigate, resolve, and respond to accounts payable inquiries
  • Assist Controller with generating monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports by entering adjusting journal entries in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Generate reports as requested by Controller
  • Perform account reconciliations as assigned
  • Other responsibilities as directed

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting (Preferred)
  • 0-2 years accounting experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products including advanced skills in Excel
  • Experience reconciling balance sheet and income statement accounts
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive financial information
  • Knowledge of GAAP standards
