HOURS PER WEEK: Full-time

JOB PURPOSE: Oversee the management of Reserve assets to align with American Prairie Reserve goals, priorities and operating budget. Plan, oversee, and continually develop an effective asset team. Ensure the safeguarding of property and people assets with priority on fostering and enforcing a culture of health and safety. Act as a core member of the Reserve team to support on-the-ground operations as needed.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:
Reserve Asset Team Leadership & Management (55%)
- Provide leadership for the asset team to ensure attraction and retention of qualified staff; ongoing individual and team training and development; cost-effective and safe deployment of personnel.
- Provide direct oversight of the Maintenance Specialist who plans and supervises the daily work of the asset team.
- Responsible for strategic and project-based planning to effectively manage the Reserve operating budget, project priorities, and initiatives.
- Oversight and management of reserve assets including vehicles, tractors, implements, heavy equipment, OHVs, lawn tractors, pumps, sprayers, hydraulic lifts, power tools, pneumatic tools, hand tools, wells, pipelines, automatic waterers, staff housing, guest housing, outbuildings, corrals, and other miscellaneous equipment and facilities.
- Ensure assets are inventoried, inspected, insured, monitored, and maintained.
Health and Safety Assurance (20%)
- In collaboration with Operations Manager and Safety Committee, act as the Reserve Safety Officer to facilitate compliance with APR safety plan, occupational health and safety (OSH), and applicable state and federal regulations; create, follow, and enforce safety and compliance guidelines and policy.
- Recommend and implement health and safety training.
- Act in the Field Operations Leader role on the Crisis Response Team in the event of incident or accident.
Donor and Public Relations (15%)
- Provide property tours, support, assistance, and act as a representative of APR to guests, current and prospective donors, and representatives of government agencies as needed.
- Continually cultivate positive relationships with neighbors and area community.
- Assist with the achievement of fundraising goals by collaborating with fundraisers in their efforts to cultivate and steward donors and participating to identify and secure sources of revenue to support to fund operations and initiatives.
Wildlife, Habitat, and Bison Restoration (10%)
- Assist in the general labor operations on properties as needed.
- Participate in restoration projects such as bison handling and wildlife monitoring.
Specific Skills, Educational Requirements, Credentials, Experience, Knowledge and Attributes needed for high performance:
- Enthusiasm for and positive representation of APR’s mission, goals, and culture.
- Ability to live on or near the American Prairie Reserve.
- 4-6 years directly related experience; related degree preferred.
- Possess excellent project management skills, including the ability to give clear directions, set and manage project expectations with teams inside and outside the organization.
- Possess excellent skills in developing and maintaining effective processes and systems.
- Experience assessing and mitigating for property, health, and safety risks; grounding in safety regulations for job sites.
- Ability to create, follow, and enforce safety and compliance guidelines and policy.
- Ability to interact and collaborate in a professional manner with employees at all levels of the organization and with APR partners, agencies, and contractors in the best interest of APR’s mission and goals.
- Ability to adaptively problem-solve the many challenges presented by operating in remote locations.
- Experience operating equipment and tools; to drive trucks, tractors, heavy equipment, snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles, and pull various trailers.
- Fundamental knowledge of facilities, fleet, and construction maintenance and management.
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Word and Excel; experience using inventory/asset management systems preferred.
- First aid and CPR certified, Wilderness First Responder Certification preferred (certification provided after hire if needed).
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to drive frequently between APR properties and communities in the project area and occasional travel outside of the project area.
- Ability to operate tools and equipment necessary to complete job duties and frequently lift and carry up to 50lbs.
- Familiarity with local area, politics, and government agencies preferred.
EXTENUATING WORKING CONDITIONS: This role requires physically laborious work and exertion in variable and extreme weather conditions, at remote and isolated locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain. Requires exposure to and use of hazardous equipment and tools. This position requires working long hours and/or evening and weekend hours.
