Job Description

The Interactive Designer is responsible for the design, development and support of shopping experiences on, in collaboration with other team members to meet or exceed the company’s goals and objectives. A high degree of web-related technical, creative and design skill is required.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Identify, design, develop and test interactive elements, enhancements and webpages for to meet Murdoch’s technical and branding requirements while incorporating usability standards and general website design best practices
  • Manage, update & schedule online content through CMS
  • Participate in industry research to map UX trends into the consumer experience
  • Support the testing and optimization of pages to increase conversion rates
  • Participate in usability studies
  • Analyze and document best practices and customer flows for campaigns online
  • Serve as a project leader, team member or individually on special or ad-hoc projects and company initiatives as needed
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of customers, personnel and management
  • Work with cross-functional teams from Purchasing, Marketing, IT, and Store Operations to develop engaging consumer experiences                      

Required Skills:

  • Advanced interactive design and development skills with a solid understanding of current UX web design best practices, web graphics & visual/interface design
  • Highly proficient in constructing interactive experiences with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript/JQuery utilizing adaptive design tactics
  • Highly proficient using prototyping tools such as UXPin, Axure, Sketch, etc. to create storyboards, wireframes and high-def comps to demonstrate the consumer journey through online shopping experiences
  • Expert level use of Adobe Creative Suite including, but not limited to Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator
  • Experience utilizing Content Management Systems
  • Experience in eCommerce
  • Ability to work in a PC environment
  • Highly collaborative team member with the ability to work independently as well as with cross-functional teams to accomplish goals and objectives
  • Demonstrate solid organizational and planning skills
  • Demonstrate a capacity to operate successfully in a fast paced, changing, deadline-driven environment to make fact-based decisions and implement recommendations quickly to drive for continuous improvement

Nice to have:

  • Experience utilizing a CSS framework such as Bootstrap 3, Materialize, Foundation
  • Experience using a CSS pre-processer such as SASS, SCSS, or LESS
  • Experience building web applications utilizing JavaScript Frameworks such as Angular.js, React.js
  • Experience with client-side templating such as Handlebars.js, Jade
  • Experience with .NET environments, SQL, PHP
  • Experience in web analytics and AB testing platforms such as Google Analytics, Optimizely
  • Experience with versioning systems such as Team Foundation Server, BitBucket, Github


  • BA/BFA in Graphic Design, Website Design, Interactive Media or related field of study
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in website and interactive media design and development
