Job Description

The Systems Engineer/Administrator plays a critical role in achieving secure and effective IT operations. This position will work within a small, high powered, centralized team that creates and implements leading edge information technology solutions to solve difficult network and systems problems. Must be substantially self-motivated as well as a collaborative team player. The Systems Engineer/Administrator must have a keen desire to explore, learn, and apply new technologies to business and technical problems as well as display a desire for continuous self-improvement in a rapidly evolving technical arena. 

Day-to-day duties will include internal customer interaction in a friendly environment while maintaining existing systems and building Murdoch’s new and enhanced cloud and network capabilities. The Systems Engineer/Administrator will be expected to analyze problems and design and implement solutions to those problems.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and/or participate in software deployment or other business information systems projects
  • Administration of a large/diverse/distributed/secure network
  • Introduce and integrate new technologies into existing data center environments
  • Install, support, maintain, and administration of corporate servers and cloud services
  • Perform routine audits of systems and software
  • Apply operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes
  • Install and configure new hardware and software
  • Add, remove, or update user account information, reset passwords, and Microsoft Active Directory maintenance
  • Answer technical queries and deal with often frustrated users
  • Troubleshoot escalated help desk tickets
  • System performance tuning
  • Deploy 24/7 monitoring of all critical infrastructure
  • Analyze system logs to provide daily security and network health assessments
  • Implementation of new technologies and major modifications to the network and server infrastructure
  • Administration of corporate software applications
  • Seek continuing education on emerging technology and best practices
  • Document the configuration of systems

Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery

  • Responsible for system backups, archiving, and disaster recovery
  • Plan for and respond to service outages
  • Assists in plans for resumption of applications, data, hardware, communications, and other IT infrastructure in the event of a disaster

Experience and Skill Requirements:

  • 5+ years demonstrated experience in a similar position
  • Experience with Network Administration, Design, and Implementation
  • Heavy expertise in Microsoft server technologies, Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer preferred
  • Experience with Office 365, Exchange 2016
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud
  • Demonstrated experience with Windows Server 2012 and 2016
  • Experience with VMware
  • Experience with Dell Servers and Dell Compellent SANs preferred
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional a plus
