Job Description

 Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Oversight and auditing of the professional standards of the Sporting Goods Department and FFL firearms transfer systems, including all federally regulated processes for all Murdoch’s Ranch and Home Supply stores and distribution centers (DC)
  • Assists Compliance leadership in establishing this new and expanding Sporting Goods Department within all stores and DC’s, while creating the minimum impact to Murdoch’s culture
  • Interfacing this new Compliance program while maintaining all professional standards of the Loss Prevention, Health and Safety efforts employed within all stores and DC’s
  • Assists in the consultation, design, system implementation, modifications, and support of the current Murdoch’s information management system. This includes the FFL requirement, GCA defined, ATF mandated Acquisition and Disposition (A&D) system for federally regulated firearms
  • Assists in the setup and oversight of all Sporting Goods Departments, in all stores and DC’s, including ATF Compliance audits, technical support, staff training, safety systems implementations, as well as oversees the modifications to each location to accommodate this new and expanding department including modifications to safety procedures, staff training procedures and facilities security modifications
  • Assists in the corporate wide awareness of our newly accepted responsibilities as FFL’s and the retail sales of firearms and other federally regulated products
  • Supports and facilitates a corporation wide compliance technical support system, to maintain best practices, industry standards of conduct, and FFL mandated compliance
  • Maintains confidence and protects compliance by keeping information confidential

 Additional Responsibilities:

  • Frequent travel to existing and new store and DC locations
  • Conduct random simulated ATF compliance inspections at existing and future store locations
  • Training department personnel at current, new, and future store and DC locations
  • Reviewing state and federal laws continually to ensure compliance at all store and DC locations
  • Oversight of actual ATF inspections at any store or DC location
  • Extensive written and verbal correspondence with ATF, legal counsel, consultants, and store/DC personnel
  • Review of internal audit reports to ensure store/DC compliance with ATF and state regulations
  • Oversee the investigation of potential violations, reported and suspected violations of policies, statutes, rules, or regulations.
  • Prepare comprehensive and detailed investigative reports, maintain all data, analyze trends, and make recommendations to implement corrective action and reduce risk.
  • May assist with developing and updating Sporting Goods procedures, policies, and forms

Skill Set Requirements:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of firearms, sporting goods, reloading equipment and product accessories
  • Reasonable knowledge of GCA/BATFE/NIC’s mandated FFL programs, processes, and procedures
  • Armor level certification, training, and experience are an additional benefit
  • Administrative writing skills, reporting skills, supply management, scheduling, organization, time management, presentation skills, travel logistics, verbal communication
  • Strong computer and internet research skills
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Excel in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment
  • Must be a motivated self-starter

  • Experience in retail business desirable
  • Knowledge of firearms, sporting goods, reloading equipment and product accessories
