Job Description

The Universal Banker is a resourceful, customer-focused individual who manages a variety of complicated banking products and services. Individuals in this position must be capable of troubleshooting computer banking systems, resolving unique banking difficulties, and utilizing their inventiveness to seek out prompt help to ensure client pleasure.

Primary Responsibilities:

A Universal Banker's primary mission is to provide great client service. A Universal Banker's key responsibilities include the following:

  • Maintain a friendly and professional demeanor when representing American Bank.
  • Acquire and maintain a working knowledge of all American Bank products and services.
  • Customers who come into the bank for banking services are interviewed. Manages transaction data. Prepares all required documentation. Maintains contact with customers to ensure that all paperwork are completed and returned and that they are satisfied.
  • Manage accounts, which may include installment loans, checking, savings, certificates of deposit, and IRAs, as well as other retail banking services. Servicing these accounts entails providing loans, opening new accounts, cross-selling services, and addressing issues. Is in charge of account retention.
  • Contact existing bank customers in person, by mail, or by phone to solicit new business in order to accomplish the specific goals specified for each personal banker in order to develop retail bank services. Is accountable for meeting monthly and annual loan and deposit goals.
  • Daily review of overdrawn checking accounts for payment or return of checks, as well as account closure. Contacts customers to arrange for the closure of accounts.
  • Resolve customer service issues. Collects information, conducts research, and follows up on specifics to ensure that the consumer is satisfied.
  • Collect past-due loans.
  • Assist with telephone answering.
  • Carry out any account maintenance requests from consumers and management.
  • Participate in a community service group in order to enhance the community and American Bank's image.
  • Complete the needed compliance bank training satisfactorily and adhere to all applicable regulations within the scope of the position.

On a Case-by-Case Basis:

  • Receipt of checks and cash for deposit into savings and checking accounts, verification of deposit amounts, examination of checks for endorsement and negotiability, and entry of transactions into bank records using an online teller terminal.
  • Upon verification of signatures and client account balances, cash checks and pay money from savings and checking accounts. Inspect all checks, bonds, money orders, and withdrawals from savings accounts, among others, to evaluate their negotiability.
  • Accept all types of loan payments, ensuring that payments equal the balance due and that any applicable late fees are collected.
  • Sell bank products to get commissions. Several examples include the following:
    • Copies of Money Orders and Statements
    • Photocopies of Cashier Checks
    • Stop Payments 
    • Gift Cards

 

  • Cash products can be redeemed for deposits or cash. Savings Bonds are one example.
  • Increase awareness of bank services and cross-sell bank goods.
  • After successful verification, provide customers with information about their accounts and items.
  • Maintain an appropriate balance of cash and negotiable things.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Other jobs or responsibilities that the Universal Banker may be assigned, which may or may not be location-specific within the market region.
  • Contribute to the development of a branch business strategy and the establishment of personal goals and objectives for this job.
  • Assist with the branch's opening and/or closing
  • Combination and control of keys
  • Activation and processing of night depository, ATM, and/or cash dispensers
  • Constraints on the use of negotiable instruments
  • Cash and negotiable instruments internal audit
  • As assigned, perform additional duties and responsibilities.

Performance expectations:

The Universal Banker is anticipated to meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Capable of presenting a professional image and providing quick, high-quality service to all consumers.
  • Telephone system operation that is efficient and effective; bank computer system operation that includes Microsoft Word, Excel, Jack Henry, and E-Mail; calculator; photocopier; and fax machine.
  • Capability of opening, closing, and maintaining all deposit account products
  • To conduct all transactions ethically, in accordance with the customer's needs and within the limitations specified by American Bank.
  • Increasing business through cold calling initiatives and participation in at least one external service organization
  • Meeting management's goals and objectives
  • Certification for the sale of life, disability, and credit life and disability insurance, upon request.
  • Maintaining a financial balance within the established parameters
  • Maintain funds within predetermined limitations to minimize the bank's risk of loss.
  • Consistent application of bank policies and procedures

Competencies and Capabilities Required:

  • Interpersonal qualities need to represent American Bank positively
  • Critical sensory abilities include the ability to see, hear/listen, touch, and talk.
  • Reading, writing, basic arithmetic, mathematics, visualizing results, analyzing data, searching for solutions, and performing research all involve mental work.
  • Physical dexterity requirements include the ability to operate standard office equipment such as a teller machine, a telephone, a computer, a coin counter, a check encoder, a currency counter, a cash advance machine, a teller capture scanner, a document imaging scanner, a calculator, a typewriter, a photocopier, a fax machine, and a postage machine.
  • Become a member of the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing and Registration System (NMLS)

Conditions of Employment:

  • The work setting is inside, in a clean environment with a moderate degree of noise.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to stand for extended periods of time while giving customer service, sit, and stroll, as well as the ability to lift and carry 30 pounds waist high and 20 pounds shoulder high.
  • It is necessary to be able to work under time limits and pressure.
  • Exposure to a potentially dangerous circumstance – robbery. Receives specific instructions and procedures to follow in order to mitigate risk.
